Fates was my first ever Fire Emblem game, so getting used to all the 'downgrades' in gameplay was a bit of a shock and is still an irritant at times.

Astra is not dependent on anything except skill. Unlike crit, which relies on crit%, astra% CANNOT be mitigated by enemy, unlike crit% which can be mitigated by enemy Luck. This is both a good/bad thing, as you can't get the bonus activation from weapons, but activation will be consistent. Astra can deal a LOT more than crits.
